Advocacy
Health promotion and advocacy are an important part of the operations of Colores – The Colorectal Cancer Association of Finland. Colores is the only patient organization in Finland that focuses on colorectal cancer and Lynch syndrome carriers, providing its specialized expertise and support to these patient groups.

- Nearly 5,000 people are diagnosed with colorectal cancer every year, making it the second most common cancer in Finland. The incidence of colorectal cancer is also rising at an alarming rate among the younger population.
- The disease can be prevented through screenings and endoscopies. When detected early, colorectal cancer is often curable. Screenings increase the number of detected cases and help identify precancerous lesions. However, not everyone has access to screening, and the topic remains stigmatized and sensitive. This situation is deeply concerning.
- The Blue Ribbon campaign (Sininen nauha) offers an opportunity to support the work done to prevent colorectal cancer. Colores aims to inspire other operators to collaborate and launch nationwide campaigns to promote health.
Partnerships and Stakeholders

Colorectal cancer can be prevented by participating in screenings and endoscopies, and the disease is curable if the tumor is detected at an early stage. With the implementation of screenings, the recorded incidence has grown and the number of detected cases has increased significantly, as screening helps identify precancerous lesions and prevents cancer from developing. However, not everyone has access to screening, and the topic is sensitive. This situation is both concerning and highly topical.
