Peer support

Peer support means sharing experiences with someone who has been through a similar situation. It brings understanding, perspective and strength at times when life involves illness or uncertainty.

Peer support is low-threshold assistance based on sharing similar life experiences with others. Discussing with a peer can help find new perspectives, strengthen your own resources, and bring relief to the thoughts and feelings evoked by an illness or a hereditary cancer risk. Peer support is based on equal encounters and mutual understanding.

Colores – The Finnish Colorectal Cancer Association provides peer support for adults diagnosed with colorectal cancer, Lynch syndrome carriers, and their loved ones. Peer support is open to everyone and free of charge.

The association’s peer support is provided by trained volunteer peer supporters. They have personally experienced cancer, are Lynch syndrome carriers, or are family members of those affected. Volunteers receive training for their role and are committed to strict confidentiality.

Peer support is available in many different ways. Explore our forms of peer support below to find the one that best suits your needs.
