Our mission
Our mission is to provide up-to-date, reliable information and genuine support for those affected by colorectal cancer, individuals with Lynch syndrome, and their loved ones. We also raise awareness about lifestyle factors that may help reduce cancer risk, as well as the importance of symptom recognition and early diagnosis.
We aim to provide information in a clear and compassionate way, helping people cope with the crisis of illness and navigate everyday life. We are committed to communicating authentically, reliably, and based on the latest research.
A cancer diagnosis affects every area of life, requiring support that is both individual and person-centered. We listen, offer support, and guide people toward further help when needed. Accessible, easy-to-understand information promotes equality and empowers individuals to participate in decisions regarding their own care.
Peer support is at the heart of our work. Our peer supporters use their lived experience to help others in similar situations. They are the strength and foundation of our association.
A good life – preventing cancer, supporting recovery.
Colorectal cancer and many other gastrointestinal cancers can be prevented or treated effectively when detected at an early stage. Today, more people than ever recover and rehabilitate. Our collective understanding of these diseases is growing, and people feel more empowered to speak openly about their symptoms.
Every person diagnosed with cancer, along with their loved ones, should receive the care they need. We work to ensure that suffering is minimized and that support, information, and a community are always accessible and close at hand. Alongside a good life, we also advocate for the right to a dignified and compassionate end of life.
Colores supports the work and advocacy of the Cancer Society of Finland and maintains active collaboration within the network of cancer organizations. This is made possible because the Cancer Society of Finland is a pioneer in cancer prevention, research, support, and advocacy. Colores also plays a key role in bridging the gap between scientific research and practical application.
The current strategy is a commitment to promoting health, preventing cancer, supporting those affected, and reducing the impact of cancer across the country. The Cancer Society of Finland’s strategy guides all operations from 2026 to 2030.
Colores is fully committed to the strategy of the Cancer Society of Finland, and our shared values guide everything we do.

Reliability
Reliability means that we deliver on our promises. It stands for high-quality service that meets people’s needs, and for scientific research that fosters expertise and hope. Trust is something we must earn in every encounter. We are a community where people can lean on one another, acting professionally and transparently both within our organization and in the world around us.
Equality
Everyone has the right to receive support and information. We do our utmost to reach people from all walks of life more effectively. We treat every individual with equality and respect.
Humanity
We ensure that the individual and their needs remain at the heart of all cancer-related decisions. We build a sense of community both within our workplace and throughout society. Community is born when we meet one another as fellow human beings. In our activities, there is a place for everyone. We know one another and help each other succeed.
Responsibility
We set clear sustainability and responsibility goals for our work and actively monitor their progress. We use our funds exactly as promised, base our work on research-led information, and collaborate with partners who share our core values.
Vision
-
The needs of patients and their loved ones are heard and addressed at the right time. Our support and assistance are experienced as reliable and easily approachable. This support is accessible to everyone. Multi-professional and diverse collaboration is the foundation of our visibility and our ability to reach those in need.
-
Colores advocates for national equality in access to treatment and ensures that information regarding cancer research is accessible to all citizens. We utilize the insights gathered from our work with patients to provide expert statements to authorities and policymakers. Collaboration with other organizations is essential in achieving our shared goals.
-
The earlier the disease is detected, the less intensive the treatments required—reducing individual suffering and significantly improving the prognosis. Achieving early diagnosis requires public awareness, information, and screening, as well as equitable access to healthcare services and diagnostic tests.
Strong networks, partnerships, and collaboration are essential to reaching these goals. Colores campaigns actively both in Finland and across Europe to promote colorectal cancer screening.
